Evaluation Plan:
For this project, we evaluated student learning outcomes through authentic assessment.
Students authored a book, presented the book, and successfully led question and answer periods with
presentation guests. This year our class was interviewed and highlighted in an episode of Nickelodeon's Nick
News covering the Elephant Sanctuary. We realized great success with student outcomes. In order to
evaluate the success of our project expansion and dissemination efforts, we plan to distribute a survey to all
teachers who adopt the unit next year. We will monitor the web site, emails, and submissions and assess
shared student outcomes. On-site, we will be watching for the success teachers have when they need to handle
the technology components of the lesson independently of the Technology Specialist. The new model will be
a change for the two classroom teachers at our school who this year had experience teaching the unit,
but who have not yet had to work independently from the Tech Specialist. For the 4 new teachers, it will be
a learning year relative to both curriculum and technology. In subsequent years we hope mentor
teachers, along with the Tech Specialist, will help pass on the new skills. Our enhancement and dissemination
plan ties in with an objective of our 5 year technology plan: to increase teachers computer skills and
encourage them to design and teach technology integrated units.
